Tank Tops to Tango on the Town?

Ok so it’s almost summer….or at least according to the calendar we still have a few days of spring left here in Lexington but for all intended purposes it’s summertime.  The weather is already HOT and things are beginning to get a little dry…..no offense California I know we have no idea.

But as things heat up across the country so do the outfits.  Girls are wearing less and less these days  but that’s been more than a trend for a long time.  The new thing that grabs me is that guy are now wearing less and less too!  Skinny jeans, short “preppy fit” shorts and now TANK TOPS!

Can you believe kids these and what they wear out on the town?  Admittedly I don’t get out much.  But last time we went out on the town we ended up renting a limousine from http://www.lexingtonluxurylimo.com.  As we were tooling around town and leaving dinner our driver took us downtown near some of the clubs.  Obviously, we were too old to be hitting any of these hipster joints but we noticed a group of guys getting out of another limo that night.  There were like 9 of them and I bet 4 of them had tank tops on.

So you rent a limousine and you and your boys all head out in tank tops?  What happened to chivalry and being a dressed like a gentleman?  It appeared these kids had no class whatsoever.  But eh bar with the big long line let them in right in front foe everyone else.  So either they must have been somebody or they must have known somebody.  Either way they were ushered to the front of the line and let inside the club in tank tops.

I found that to be so bizarre.  We noticed one of them even wore a sport coat over his tank so I suppose this is the new trend in downtown clubs in central Kentucky.

I’m not opposed to tank tops but I do find them a wee bit tacky outside the gates of the public pool.  Everyone in south Florida and especially Wilton Manors wears them year round.  Any eating establishment or bar and you’re sure to find someone repping a tank top.  Mind you, for some other odd reason they seam to be mostly gay men wearing them.  Gay men of the burly persuasion.  Not what one would think of as the tv portrayed stereotypical gay.

These gays are known as “bears”.  Most of them workout regularly and grow gruff beards and have tons of body hair.  The hairier the better I’m told by one of my gay friends.  The young ones are called “cubs” so this whole tank top wearing subculture really gets the credit for putting the shirt back on the map.

So I guess the tank can be worn in more places than I ever imagined.  More acceptable in eating and drinking establishments in this day and time.  Again, I’m not opposed to the tank top, I’m just baffled at how “versatile” the attire has seemingly become.
